All my favorite songs! ^_^
Reviewed by Ray on January 10, 2007.
While I dont speak japanese, i knew all my favorite tunes when i played
them. Ive never had a lesson in my life yet found most songs fairly
simple to play on my midi keyboard. Great fun for all fans of the game
and those who want to start playing piano.

A Final Fantasy fanatic's must have

As mentioned in the previous reviews, this book varies as far as required skill level for the pieces. Many beginning pianists will rate this book as "extremely difficult", while more advanced users will mention something along the lines of "every piece is sight-readable". My opinion: somewhere in the middle.

I have been playing piano for only three years now, and yet, with little practice, I believe about half of the pieces can be played fluently. Some of the arrangements are quite nice and fun to play ("Cait Sith's Theme" is one of my favorites), and are worth the slight effort they are to learn. However, some pieces are ridiculously impossible (measures 7-8 of One Winged Angel; other owners will know what I am talking about...), while others carry almost no depth at all; often, you are stuck repeating a single bass note over and over again. I suppose that a lot of these issues arise from merely the difficulties of arranging an orchestrated piece for piano. But, over the course of owning this book, it is likely that you will, at least once, feel the way I do about the inconviences regarding the arrangements.

My final verdict: consider your options. Just like the original soundtrack, there is a different (and widely considered better) version of a select few of these pieces.

If you are realitively inexperienced (you can probably judge your own skill level, but I would say under 5 years of experience; I fall into this category): Buy the book. You will enjoy seeing all of these wonderful pieces' sheet music in front of you, and the sheer completeness of this book will be worth all of your money (especially if you own the original soundtrack)

If you are more experienced: Consider wisely; the other version of some of these pieces are more complex, sound better, and produce greater benefits once learned (plus, they feel as if they are actually arranged by a fellow pianist). But, if you want the complete piano scores with ALL of the music, and you don't mind the viriety in complexity, then, by all means, go right ahead. These pieces are truly a memorable addition to any Final Fantasy piano player's library.

This is simply exellent. This book suits all people, from beginners to intermediate, from dark persons to happy persons, if you know what I mean.
One winged angel is beautiful when it`s played correctly, and the easy Tifa Remembers is sweet and lovely for the beginners. Everyone must have this,
only con is that it`s hard to have the book open.

This book is awesome! Every song from the soundtrack is in it, so you can play all of your favorite songs. The only problem is that it's hard to keep the book open. You can put a bind on it, but the people who did it, screwed up. -_-But it's still good. Anybody who loves FFVII should get this book!

The FFVII OST sheet music book is wonderful. The songs are not too difficult so even a beginner can play. If you decide to get this book, be sure you print out the list of songs so you know what your playing, since the book is in japanese. The only drawback is that there isn't really an end to the songs. It just tells you to fade out, but what can you expect? After all, it is meant to sound just like the soundtrack. I would recommend this to you, but not if you are looking to perform it or something because you cant fade out like the soundtrack while performing.

Musicians buy it
Reviewed by FFVII is still the best one. on April 25, 2003.
My only complaint is that the book does not want to stay open. This, however, shouldnt stop anyone from buying it. While some songs do not (and in fact can not) sound the same as they do in the game when played on piano, this is to be expected. A keyboard can't compete with an entire orchestra. This book is worth having for nostalgia alone; you can sit down and flip through, playing your favorite tracks. And as far as the book not staying open? Just photocopy your favorite pieces. Problem solved!

Perfect for those who want to experience FFVII's moments on a deeper level.

I was really impressed with this book. I am a self-taught pianist, and for me, these arrangements were of varying degrees of difficulty. I enjoyed playing all these songs. I took the music to the next level and arranged it for several wind instruments to make an FF orchestra of my own. This was a great guide. I highly recommend it for pianists of all levels.

This is a wonderful book. I didn't like the music in VII as much as all the other FFs but a lot of it is still great. Even crappy Square music is better than most amazing bach and beetohven stuff. My favorites are "On that day 5 years ago", "Gold Saucer", and "Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony". Some like Cosmo Canyon were great in the game but lame on piano so I give this 4 instead of 5.

Tricky yet fun

This quite an excellent book of solos. I was a little weary of getting the book. I thought the music might be to hard or it might clash because it's arranged from a whole orchesta, but it sounded just great!!! I'm a pretty advanced pianist so the music isn't too tough for me but some of the songs were a challenge. The only bad thing about this book is that all the song titles and tips are in Japanese and its a little bit difficult to keep the book open... Otherwise it's just great!!!!!

This is by far the best piano book i own. It's a perfect book. I'm 15 and have been playing piano since i was 5, so i thought this book would be simple to learn, but it's not. And that's what i love about it. The only problem is that all the song titles are in Japanese, and some of the songs aren't true to the soundtrack, such as one winged angel for example, Jenova absoluet, and Birth of a god. They sound just awesome on the soundtrack, but when your clanking out the same one note on the base line in jenova absolute, it kinda gets a little annoying. Other than that, it's a must buy.

First of all, this book is seriously NOT for beginners. If you've listened to the soundtrack, then you'll understand why. Even I have difficulty playing some of the stuff in here and I've been playing the piano for at least 10 years. However, if you're really an avid fan of piano and Final Fantasy music and you have the determination, then I would recommend getting this book.

Some pieces are good and aren't too hard to pick out the tune or the notes. Other just seem slightly impossible to play on the piano such as the J-E-N-O-V-A song. Either way, it's useful if you want to make your own personal remixes/midis. Some of the longer ones can be rewritten or arranged for an orchestra if you possess that kind of drive.

This book contains all the songs found on the soundtrack in the same exact order from Disc 1 to Disc 4. Most pieces are true to the original but they, like the game soundtrack, loop endlessly but do have a break point to finish the piece.

So I conclude. If you seriously want to get this, know what you're getting yourself into. Otherwise don't spend the money.

Fair piano score for an incredible soundtrack.
Reviewed by Michael Alfera on October 25, 2000.
Let's be honest -- Final Fantasy 7 has one of the best, if not the best, game music scores ever. Nobuo Uematsu outdid himself here, from the OST to the reunion tracks.
And then there's the piano score. ALL of the DoReMi piano scores are very clear-cut in what they try to accomplish.
a) They, of course, let you play the songs on the piano.
b) They adhere EXACTLY to the OST songs.
c) Generally, the two most important instruments are picked and scored, exactly, note for note.

It is this formula that spells the following word for DoReMi arrangements.

BLAH.

It's a problem: you CAN'T arrange guitar and electric bass and full-band (multi-track) arrangements for piano by adhering strictly to the music. Sometimes, there can be five or six COMPLETELY different parts playing at once. They have to be "Arranged" -- that is, they have to be changed slightly to sound good and natural on piano.
Now, just because this is done doesn't mean that the FF7 piano score is automatically BAD. In fact, there are some songs that sound really great when transcribed exactly on the piano.
Examples: Costa del Sol, Tifa's Theme, Aeris's Theme, and Mako Reactor.
Examples of BAD arrangements: Valley of the Fallen Star, Bombing Mission, Underneath the Rotting Pizza, and Boss.
The rest are in between.
I guess the point is this: DON'T buy this piano score expecting to be able to play any one of the songs on the FF7 OST. Anyone with just a little experience can weed out the bad ones, add a little to the small handful of good ones, and make FF7 music sound pretty good on the piano.

Unfortunately, not to frustrate the piano beginners, they made this book a little bit too simple. The melodies of the game are powerful, and quite amazing. But in the transfer to piano, it had to be simplified; partly because we only have two hands, and partly not to frustrate beginners. But (like my FF8 review) if you like piano and Final Fantasy music, get this book.

This book absolutely rules. The songs are beautiful and true to the actual songs. It has every single song from the game in it. The example shown is REALLY SIMPLE ... don't be fooled, the rest of the book is not as simple. Six sharps, 5/4 time, and fast, complicated rhythms make about half the songs pretty friggin hard!

The only tiny problem is that all the titles (except J-E-N-O-V-A) are all in Japanese. But you can go to this site and look at the order of songs listed in the product page. The songs in the book follow that order with a couple of exceptions. Or you can email me for the exact order. :)

I would not be surprised if piano teachers would approve of using these books to teach. They cover rhythms, ALL the key signatures, and LOTS of technical things such as fingering and quick movement.

Forget about your life, you friends, your family, your school, because once you get this book, you'll be hunched over your piano (keyboard [synthesizer] not recommended) for days, learning to play these gorgeous songs!!!

Me like. Thats all I have to say. Me like a lot. If you're a true FFVII fan you will love playing this. Some don't sound exactly right, like One Winged Angel (the final boss) because it was made for an orchestra, but if you imagine that it was the orchestra with piano leading it, it sounds great. I love Aerith's theme, Lifestream, and Vincent's Theme. Those are really really good. I may not sound too enthusiastic. I'm tired, that's why. If I were awake I would be jumping up and down and screaming. My only suggestion for if you buy it is not to put other music in front of the book on your stand, it will fall off since the book is..what, 300 pages???

Yes, Niwa Asako-san managed to arrange Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack for piano, and she did a great job (once again!). Sometimes it is apparent that it was a bit difficult, for example when long tones are used, or when pieces became too difficult (this book has to be able to be played by children too, you know), so she had to invent some way of transcribing those parts. And she did a great job. It's just like all the other books. If you liked the soundtrack, you'll like the book too. It's as simple as that! If you're willing to pay for the book, you won't be disappointed. The book itself is quite nice (like all Doremi releases), but can sometimes be a bit nasty if it comes down to staying open on one particular page. But hey, this is your chance to play 'One Winged Angel' and the FF7 Main Theme on your own piano or keyboard! Enough said.

This book contains near-exact transcriptions of the FFVII soundtrack, arranged in a PLAYABLE format! The piano arrangements are MUCH more playable than the FFVI Piano Collections, so don't fret! Some of the pieces are still challenging however, and the arrangements are not 'watered down' to make them easy to play. In every song, you'll still hear all your favorite themes and nuances you've come to love in the OST. Excellent! Buy them all!
