This set of 4 Cd's is absolutely wonderful, the best music I've ever heard...even outside of RPG's. The first two discs will blow you away, with their classical, Renaissance style. The remaining 3rd and 4th discs will change it up a bit and add a more futuristic/techo feel to complete the soundtrack. I also suggest buying the "Final Fantasy IX Plus" CD in order to complete the experience.
Trust me, this soundtrack has EVERYTHING and I can guarantee that you'll be listening to each track over and over for a very long time. AMAZING! |

This 4-CD set is loaded with every song from FF9 and more [the Coca-Cola Commercial Music is also included!]. This soundtrack is enlightening, dark, mysterious, and magical, all in 1. Every track is worth owning this soundtrack. The downside to the soundtrack, however, is the steep price, but believe me, after you fork over $50 to own this masterpiece, you'll also agree it was well worth the money. Even though its a soundtrack to a game where theirs already a story, I feel like I can make up another one. The songs are done very well. Personally, I thought it really got good during the 4th CD, with songs like 'I feel that way too', and the Bran Bal Song. The one I liked the most was the last song of the actual game 'Towards that gate'. To tell the truth, it almost made me cry. I definatly recomend it to anyone.

I can name about 15 songs from that bad boy that are memorable (Prelude, Matoya's Cave, to name a few). This soundtrack gets back to those good old days. Sound quality cannot compare to Chrono Cross, but I can assure you that it is good. I can also assure you that you will like at least 1 of the 120 tracks. Nobuo Uematsu has done it again! Amazingly, each one of these 100+ songs are different in so many ways. Upbeat dancing music, like You're Not Alone and Hunter Chance. Then the slow music, like the (japanese AND english lyrics of) Melodies of Life! If you enjoyed the game, get this. If you didn't like the game...get it anyway! If you've never played the game...shame on you, and buy this! If the fairly high price tag starts to scare you, think of the 4 CDs at that price. That's actually quite a deal. This soundtrack has some of the coolest songs that Nobuo Uematsu has ever written. But my only criticism of this (and most other FF Soundtracks) is that there are just enough tracks with too much of a frivolous nature that really aren't too musical. I actually went through and rated every single track (what a task...fun, though), and most of the tracks got 4 stars. There were quite a few 5's too. But there were just enough 3's and 2's that shy my overall rating from 5 stars. Don't get me wrong, I feel Nobuo Uematsu is a genius, and he has written some things that have really spoken to me (the Final Fantasy Theme, Terra's Theme, Aeris' Death, Eyes on Me). But I understand that since he has to produce so much for these games (100+ tracks for this alone), not everything can be like Aeris' Death. A good buy. There are some really cool ones on here.

FFIX is the first game in a long time to go BACKWARDS in many aspects, returning to the MP system for magic, using a fantasy theme, and above all, having a much more classic FF approach to music.
The first thing one might notice when listening to this soundtrack is that a lot of the sampled instruments seem less vibrant or "real" than those of FFVIII. Also, the music is much softer, less of a techno/rock feel all around. Does this ruin the soundtrack, however? No.
The FFIX soundtrack shines, as being one of the most beautifully original soundtracks in the entire city. By "stepping backwards" to the old style, Uematsu has actually progressed his own skills to a new level.
Some of the songs are quite reminiscent of older themes, especially on the third disc. Themes such as Mysidia (From FFIV) and the town music from FF1 can be found on the CD, in much newer, deeper forms.
My only major complaint on this CD is that it has Melodies of Life. I know many people like this song, but I just can't get into it, whether it is in English OR Japanese.
This is, overall, one of the better FF scores, worth every penny you pay to buy it.

Nobuo Uematsu has really outdone himself this time. Honestly, when I first picked this soundtrack up, I was not expecting what I got! 110 songs of pure beauty! There are some low points in this OST, but on the whole, Uematsu does an astounding job of captivating the listener's interests by providing many different kinds of songs with many different moods and feels.
Many of the songs on this album return to the classical roots of some of the old Final Fantasy games. For example, Terra sounds somewhat like Tina (from the FFVI OSV), and Gurugu Volcano is a remix of an FFII song. There are several other examples I could give, but I'll leave them up to you to decipher.
So, what are the best tracks?? Let's see: Disc 1 - Vivi's Theme, Feel My Blade, Awakened Forest, Battle 2, Crossing the Knoll, and Zidane's Theme. Disc 2 - Cid's Theme, Hunter Chance, Burmecian Kingdom, Kuja's Theme, and Sword of Doubt. Disc 3 - Black Mage Village, Eiko's Theme, Iafa Tree, Protecting my Devotion, and Gurugu Volcano. Disc 4 - Airship Hilda Garde, Terra, Skirmish of the Silver Dragons, Dark Messenger, Melodies of Life, and The Prelude.
Overall, this soundtrack more than fulfills its promise by delivering many epic and sweeping songs while filling in the cracks with beautiful melodic pieces. Uematsu's work on Final Fantasy IX is astounding and brilliant. This is a video game soundtrack that any true lover of the genre can enjoy!

This 110-song OST (!) is now my most favorite video game OST ever. I like every song on every disc, in which I never get bored with it. This being Uematsu's ninth soundtrack for the FF series, I respect him even more since he improves his musical ability after every game. Well worth the money.

WOW! Nobuo Uematsu, long-time composer for the FF series, has the talent to make people laugh, sad, and etc. with his music over the years. The Final Fantasy IX soundtrack is no exception. Every song (and I do mean every song) will make you feel some type of emotion. For the most part, this soundtrack will make you laugh with Uematsu's comical type of style (i.e Steiner's Theme(Disc 1), One Problem Settled... (Disc 2), Qu's Marsh(Disc 2), and Turn Around and He's There(Disc 3)). This is the only soundtrack (out of the ones I own) that makes me feel this way all the time. Do yourself a favor, and BUY this soundtrack. Also FFIX OST Plus is worth getting as well.

Uematsu has done it yet again! By this time, reviews such as this one must seem like a xerox of a former positive review for the scores of FF 7 or 8, but what can I say, for this score is nothing short of the breathtaking work that those games contained. From first CD to last, it is balanced with slow as well as faster tracks, and therefore doesn't leave the listener in the same mood for too long. The piano work is especially nice, and the themes of the score are the most peaceful yet epic tunes since the first days that Final Fantasy 7's score came on the market. Those who enjoyed the finale track's flavour at the end of FF8 will find that they have returned, but with a new twist as Uematsu brings 9's themes in along with it. Each of the 4 CD's contains a solid 70 minutes of high quality music, so if you're thinking of finishing it in one sitting, better get a long book and plenty of potato chips. Truly a balanced work of percussion, wind, as well as stringed instruments from beginning to end. I have every Final Fantasy score since 7, which is one of my favourite, and 9 is nothing less than it was. Final Fantasy fans, if you're looking for a great score to spend money on, and want to make sure that $50 is well-spent, order this game-music masterpiece today!

To clarify, I'm not a starstruck newbie; I'm one of the most stubborn old-days RPG players out there. When I say it's the best FF soundtrack ever, I mean it. Many reviewers out there dump on the game's soundtrack; I can't understand that. It's absolutely magnificently done. True, there are a few more 'forgettable' tracks than most of Uematsu's other works (particularly all the remixes of the very lackluster 'The Place I'll Return To Someday'), but let me stress -few-. Overall, the tracks are INCREDIBLE! There's just something old school yet completely new about this soundtrack that I can't get enough of. Buy it! I guarantee you'll love it! And if you don't, you'll at least like it! =)

Im sorry guys, but this wasn't worth my money. I'd rather listen to almost any of my other soundtracks over this one. There isn't a song on any of the FOUR DISKS that I liked so much I wanted to listen to it again. In fact, ever since I listened to it for the first time, I have listened to it since. And thats been a while ago. Its the first soundtrack Ive ever bought that Im thinking about selling. The list of cons go on.
In short, the music goes good with the game, but by itself it falls very short. Normally Uematsu has his music, if not his mixes going for him. But this time not even the composition is that great. Buy Chrono Cross instead.

After despising most of the music in FF8, since almost all the songs were based "Eyes on Me" I had actually no exspectations for what Nobuo Uematsu would come up with for the ninth game in the classic serie. To be truthful, I thought he had lost the grip. As I consider FF6's warm and atmospheric music Uematsu's greatest work, I was positively surprised when I heard the first tunes in FF9. They were just as warm, atmospheric and filled with life as FF6's and Nobuo's former work. So immediately after playing through the game(FF9), I ordered this great soundtrack to hear all the great tunes which I love so much. And to my stunned experience I could feel the music grow on me, and even the songs I didn't like while playing the game, I have now come to like. With this OST Nobuo Uematsu have redeemed himself for all former bad music he has composed. So my advice to all you confused people out there is: Order this masterpiece before it run out of stock!

Well, I can say that this soundtrack is better than FF8. Other than that, I can't say much... Frankly this ST is kinda like Chrono Cross in quality. There's nothing much that really grabs your attention the first time you hear it. If you listen to it a couple times it does grow on you. The thing is that it still cannot compare with Nobuo's other works like FF4 and FF6. Where quality lacks, it certainly makes up for in quantity! 110 tracks!!! My other gripe is that 50 tracks didn't make the cut from his full 160. That will be released later on a separate disc. The extras are certainly worth it though. It comes with a collection of Amano's artwork and the music sheet for "Melodies of Life". All in all, it is worth your money, but if your looking for something superior, buy Vagrant Story or Shenmue Orchestra.

Final Fantasy 9 OST has much simpler songs than Final Fantasy 8, but they express the emotion very well, and for today's day and age it's hard to come up with something that's completely new, because almost every thing has been done already. Although some of the music sounds like you heard it somewhere before, the music is still very well done. In conclusion, I think this soundtrack is very smooth and well composed, and it's best to listen to it not as individual songs but as a whole than you'll appreciate it what a complete production this is.

And of course, no FF soundtrack is complete without the Chocobo songs. I enjoyed "Loss Of Me/Protecting My Devotion". Many themes are found in this wonderful piece of work, like many past soundtracks Uematsu has done. All of this mixing in the modern cinemalike style simular to FF 8. It has its theme song which is wonderful. Last but not least, the piece "Lifa Tree" is very pyschadelic. Althought PS2 is not in my future, I can hardly wait to see what Uematsu offeres when FF 10 comes out and he's using the real thing. Worth the buy.

The FF series has always had two types of music in the OSV versions. Ethereal music, like that of FF1-2 or six. The other type is more down to earth., like FF5 or FF8. I think that that Uematsu composes music in either style according to the needs of the game. If FF8 had more ethereal music, it would not have worked in that game's context. Of the three soundtracks he has released for FF on Playstation, 7 was the quintessential example of both syles in perfect balance. That is why it is so popular. FF8 was a more "realistic" game in many ways, and the music reflects this. FF9 is incredibly ethereal. A harkening back to the days of FF1, 2 or Six. The music has simpler themes and a less complex sound than that of FF8. It is amazing music, and well worth the purchase. It works well as pure music as well. As another reviewer said, "more fantasy" like music. Uematsu keeps more of a pure symphonic sound throughout. It is a simple sound, and that is why it works so well. I can intellectually and emotionally say this is a masterpeice. Get it.

When you listen to the Final Fantasy III soundtrack, you're amazed - you laugh, because it sounds exactly like the NES sounds, which are so funny with they're bleeps and blips. The FF4 soundtrack was not much of a change, though slightly better, mostly because it was for the SNES. The FF5 also featured not much of a variation, though we could see it was going somewhere. FF6 held a great improvement in sound quality over the previous soundtracks, and it was just the beginning. FF7 featured more of a synth sound, but was still amazing quality (especially compared to it's predecessors). With the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack, I felt like sound quality for computer engineered music had reached it's zenith - it wouldn't go downhill, it would just stay this great quality. Over the years, we had noticed a gradual improvement.... And with the FF9 soundtrack, we see... virtually no change, if not a shift back to lesser sounds. But, mind you, this works. It goes with the whole 'back to fantasy' idea Square has been working, and the music works amazingly well with the game. Even though a lot of the songs are simpler, they are in some respects even more catchy, more fun to listen to, then FF8. I feel like even the songs I don't particularly enjoy (we all know there's always a few songs that are dull), you can still sorta get the happy feeling out of them. Probably some of my favorite songs are 1.6 Feel My Blade, 2.6 Qu's Marsh, 3.8 Eiko's Theme, and - of course - 4.22 Melodies of Life. Now, one of the surprising things about this game, is that while there are a lot of battles close to the end, only one is considered the Ending Boss. So, with that, there is only one Ending Boss Theme Song... 4.16 The Last Battle. This is surprising because ever since FF6 I believe there have been multiple songs. But I digress. This soundtrack is beautiful, simple, and just plain fun to listen to. To dispel all the '80 track' rumors, as I believe one of the other reviewers stated, there are in total exactly 110 tracks. The reason they fit so many onto only 4 discs was because a few are songs from FMV sequences, like 1.4 Sky Above Alexandria. I still wish they had released the full 160+ track album... I would've bought it. =P

But I am a little bit disappointed but if you played FF9 Game, in each FMV, Uematsu San added a suspicion of orchestra symphony which I didn't find in this soundtrack exept opening movie and the ending...Surely he will add it in the next FF9 Orchestral version ... What do you think ???

This is best soundtrack I've heard form FF series so far. Get this soundtrack if you're big fan of FF game, it's worth it. I like this soundtrack better than FFVIII, because musc is similar to the music heard from FFV, FFVI. Get this soundtrack if you like those two, and before special edition sold out.

Nobuo Uematsu, famed composer of FF series' music, crafts once more an enchanting score which can be described as medieval or classic, while listing you should find similarities to FF4 and FF6. On disk 1 track 21 is the boss track, very awesome, probably as good as Legend of Mana's Pain the Universe ( Disk 1, track 9 ). The Melodies of Life sung by Emiko Shiratori is just as nice as FF8's Eyes on Me with Faye Wong or SOTN' I am the Wind by Cynthia Harrell.
I beleive I speak for all Nobuo or Square fans when I say, buy this !!!! Truly worth the price. The 3d case is cool too as the artwork by Yoshitaka Amano.
Again, get it !!!

A soundtrack that grows on you

The FF9 soundtrack at first seems lacking in something when you compare it to previous FF soundtracks. At first I thought it was shocking, and was beginning to regret my purchase, but the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. Still, I think FF7 and 8 soundtracks were much better - and perhaps I'd feel more strongly if I had played FF9 (which I haven't yet). The style of music is changed to fit the return to 'fantasy' elements that the game has, and when you take this into account, the soundtrack is very appropriate. If you don't like this at first, I think you'll change your mind the more times you listen to it - and probably even more so if you've played the game.

I quite enjoyed the music, it's very final fantasy, with strong celtic/irish influences. It does seem to get a bit repetitive as certain themes get repeated throughout the four CD's - although it's usually redone masterfully, as Uematsu is known to do. I thought the coolest thing was the fact they included the coca-cola commercial tie in music. It came with partial music for Melodies of life. Cool beans.

Nobuo Uematsu creates another masterpiece! The classic feel is back!

Another masterpiece by Nobuo Uematsu has been created. Continuing the Final Fantasy trend, Uematsu has incorporated the old feel of the earlier Final Fantasy games into a new style of music. The battle theme and fanfare both go back to their roots in Final Fantasy VI, much like the other songs in this compilation. Some say that Final Fantasy VIII's soundtrack was a disappointment. Some even say that Final Fantasy VII's soundtrack was crappy. I disagree with both of those statements, but neither can be said about Final Fantasy IX's soundtrack. This masterpiece will forever go down as a landmark in gaming music. Uematsu has lead us into the new millennium with another wonderful addition to the Final Fantasy series. Long live Squaresoft!

From the kick ass box to the extra goodies inside, FFIX - OSV is simply amazing. Nobuo Uematsu does it again with an ominous lure of great songs, a whopping 110 tracks!!!! With each game the progression of the music astounds me, getting further away from the beep-beep-bop computer tones, to a fully synthesized wonderland. You can feel characters emotions, you can sense the games ambiance and you can surely love the 4+ hour-long ride of sheer excellence this OSV presents.
Buy it or I'll shoot you!!!

This soundtrack is something to behold. You really get what you pay for, especially if you purchase this soundtrack. With approximately 80 tracks over four discs under fifty bucks, this soundtrack should be in most game-music collectors' shopping cart (such as Game Music Online's online shopping cart). I bought mine instantly the day it hit Japanese shelves and I am very pleased with my purchase.

If there is one videogame that has intense music it has been the FF series. Once again that is the case with the FF9 OSV. The music is top notch, the song "Melodies of Life" is so tranquil and peaceful that it puts you in such a relaxed mood. The Music is spread across 4 CD's and come packaged in a really cool jewel case. I suggest that if you like the FF series, you immediately pick this up.

This CD is not as good as Final Fantasy VI OSV or VII but it's a lot better than VIII. The vocal song, Melodies of Life (singed by Emiko Shitori) is the best vocal song I've ever heard in a video game. The overworld theme is alright, but it's not the best overworld theme in the Final Fantasy series. The game contains 160 track but this CD has got only 80...It's a shame, but this is worth buying. Buy the limited version NOW, because after a few months you won't be able to get it.

I had the privelage of recieving this one early, as I took a trip to Japan, and all I'm going to say is that if you don't get this one, you will be very sad, and Nobuo reserves the right to beat you down. It is truely a great CD compilation of around 80 tracks from the Games 160 song soundtrack. Amazing!
